Y-PIC:Youth Positive Impact Coaching
Helping Students Show Up, Grow Stronger, and Succeed
Based in Battle Creek, Michigan, Youth Positive Impact Coaching (Y-PIC) is a school-based mentoring and youth development program designed to help students succeed academically, socially, emotionally, and behaviorally.
Through positive relationships, evidence-based curriculum, family engagement, and collaboration with schools, Y-PIC empowers young people to develop the skills necessary to thrive in school, at home, and in their communities.
Lakeview School District, Battle Creek Public Schools, Pennfield Public Schools, and Arbor Academy.

The Results Are Showing
Y-PIC measures student progress to help schools understand what is working and where additional support is needed. At Verona Elementary, Y-PIC caseload data showed meaningful fall-to-spring academic gains. Across 31 students with Reading data and 30 students with complete Math data, students demonstrated strong academic momentum.

Significant Student Growth
- 19 students gained 10 or more RIT points in Reading.
- 18 students gained 10 or more RIT points in Math.
- 7 students gained 20 or more RIT points in Reading.
- 8 students gained 20 or more RIT points in Math.
- 14 students gained 10 or more RIT points in both subjects.
The strongest pattern in the data was the number of students who demonstrated measurable academic improvement.
Y-PIC in Action: Verona Elementary
The Challenge
Students entered the program with different academic needs, performance levels, and barriers to engagement. They needed consistent academic monitoring, relationship-centered support, individualized goal setting, and targeted intervention to strengthen Reading and Math performance.
The Y-PIC Response
Y-PIC paired academic monitoring with relationship-centered mentoring, student check-ins, goal setting, progress conferences, attendance and engagement support, and collaboration with school personnel.
The Results
- 81% of students improved in Reading
- 97% of students improved in Math
- Average Reading growth of 11.8 RIT points
- Average Math growth of 14.3 RIT points
- Average combined subject growth of 13.0 RIT points
- 24 students demonstrated growth in both Reading and Math
- 14 students gained 10 or more points in both subjects

Y-PIC works with students and families to improve school attendance through relationship-building, home visits, mentoring, goal setting, attendance monitoring, and family engagement strategies.
Behavior
Y-PIC helps students develop positive decision-making skills, emotional regulation, conflict resolution, self-awareness, and accountability while working to reduce disciplinary referrals and classroom disruptions.
Curriculum
Y-PIC provides encouragement, accountability, academic monitoring, classroom support, goal setting, and relationship-centered mentoring to help students become more engaged in their education.
Social-Emotional Development
Y-PIC helps students strengthen self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills, responsible decision-making, leadership, emotional regulation, character development, goal setting, and a growth mindset.
